The brief

A public assembly building needs an uninterrupted floor area, which pushes the roof span well past what conventional framing handles economically, and it carries a higher importance level than a comparable private building.

Structural approach

Long-span steel trusses carry the roof to perimeter supports, keeping the floor free of columns. Truss depth was set against both the structural requirement and the architectural ceiling line, and services routing was coordinated through the truss zone rather than below it.

Coordination

The structural set was checked against the architectural and services documentation at each issue, so that penetrations, plant locations and ceiling heights were resolved on paper rather than on site.
